Dance seems to be a universal phenomenon. This puts me in mind of an exchange in Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" that goes something like this (affable Sir William Lucas approaches prideful Mr. Darcy at a ball):
Sir William : Dancing is the mark of every polished society.
Mr. Darcy : And every unpolished society.
Sir William : Sir?
Mr. Darcy : Every savage can dance!
Here's another on the topic of dance versus marriage.
